Zeenat And Neetu Singh Ready To Comeback On Stage

In Uncategorized on September 6, 2009 at 7:05 am

Once upon a time, they ruled a million hearts. In their wide-flared bellbottoms, flowery shirts and oversized goggles, they were playful and cool. Now many seasons later, Zeenat Aman and Neetu Singh are ready to play their second innings on celluloid. And there’s a possibility that Sridevi too might do the same.

Zeenat Aman is making a comeback in Anil Sharma’s Dunno Y… Naa Jaane Kyon. Neetu Singh will be seen in Habib Faisal’s Do Dooni Chaar.
Most heroines of Zeenat’s time have faded from memory, with the exception of Hema Malini. Kapil Sharma, who has scripted Dunno Y… Naa Jaane Kyon says that the film is a mature love story of a Catholic woman deserted by her husband played by Kabir Bedi. Interestingly, Zeenat will be doing an encore of her superhit number, Chura liya hai in the film.

Neetu Singh was last seen in Ganga Meri Maa in 1983 before a guest appearance in Love Aaj Kal recently. She’ll be next seen as the Punjabi wife of a mathematics teacher (played by hubby Rishi) in Do Dooni Chaar. Set in South Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar-Jangpura area, the film is directed by Faisal who earlier scripted Ta Ra Rum Pum and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (2007). ‘‘It’ll release sometime in December 2009,’’ says Singh. Dhoni Is World’s Top Earning Cricketer: Forbes

In Uncategorized on September 6, 2009 at 6:53 am

Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has topped the list of world’s 10 top earning cricketers compiled by Forbes, which also features four other players from the sub-continent – Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly.

Raking in $10 million, Dhoni is at the top of the chart followed by Tendulkar at the second spot with earnings worth $8 million in the list of ‘The World’s Top-Earning Cricketers’.
While Singh and Dravid are at the third and fourth spot, respectively, Ganguly and Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting share the sixth place.
“Paycheck figures include club and national team salaries and commercial endorsement income over the last 12 months,” Forbes said.
According to the magazine, Singh earned $5.5 million while Dravid and Ganguly raked in $5 million and $3.5 million, respectively. Ponting also earned $3.5 million.
“With its deep-pocketed owners and global appeal, nine of the 10 highest-paid cricket players call the Indian Premier League (IPL) home, the publication added.
At the fifth spot is England’s Andrew Flintoff with earnings of $4 million followed by Australia’s Brett Lee and English cricketer Kevin Pietersen – both at eighth place – and Australian Michael Clarke is ranked tenth.
While Lee and Pietersen raked in $3 million each, Clarke earned $2.5 million.
“Take Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who plays for the Chennai Super Kings and tops our list as cricket’s first $10 million-a-year man (that’s $5,426 for each run scored).
“His $8 million in endorsements, from the likes of Reebok, General Electric and Pepsi, is 45 per cent more than any other player.
“Among all Indian athletes and entertainers, Dhoni’s 17 corporate sponsors is second to only Bollywood star and co- owner of the Knight Riders, Shah Rukh Khan,” Forbes said.
About Tendulkar, the magazine said the holder of numerous offensive records, is considered among the greatest batsman in cricket history.
“… he’s one of five IPL players who have been bestowed ‘icon’ status, meaning he automatically receives a paycheck 15 per cent larger than his highest paid teammate.
“Tendulkar’s $ 1.1 million salary from the Mumbai Indians helped push his total earnings to $8 million over the last 12 months,” it added. (source:timesofindia.indiatimes.com)

50-over Cricket Here To Stay: Yuvraj

In Uncategorized on September 5, 2009 at 1:17 pm

Team India middle order batsman Yuvraj Singh does not foresee the demise of 50-over cricket though he felt the rising profile of Twenty20 has overshadowed other formats.

yuvraj

"There is no doubt that Twenty20 has taken over a lot of cricket but 50 overs is here to stay," Yuvraj said.
"We got 50 overs World Cup which is a big thing," he said on the sidelines of the launch of Mangalore United team in the Karnataka Premier League on Saturday.
Tendulkar on Friday came up with a new proposal to save the 50-over format from the Twenty20 wave, suggesting that One-day matches be split into four innings of 25-over-a-side.
"I am for 50-over cricket. I think we should have 25 overs a side to start with. We should have 25 overs first for one side and then the other," Tendulkar had said.
Yuvraj said all the three formats of the game – Test, ODI (50-overs) and Twenty20 – have their own charm.
"Test cricket is also important but I think Twenty20 is very entertaining, that’s why we all love it," he said. (source:timesofindia.indiatimes.com)

Sachin Tendulkar Wants Innings Split On One Day Match

In Uncategorized on September 5, 2009 at 12:52 pm

India’s Sachin Tendulkar wants 50-over matches to be split into two innings per side to spice up the one-day game and save it from being swamped by the new Twenty20 format.

sachin

Tendulkar, who holds the record for most runs scored in both tests and one-day internationals, feels two innings of 25 overs each would make the matches more competitive and less predictable.

The 50-over format is losing popularity due to the enthusiasm for Twenty20 matches, which last about 3-1/2 hours, making them ideal for television consumption.

"I am for 50-over cricket," Tendulkar told India’s independent Times Now television.

"We should have 25 overs a side to start with. And then again, 25 overs for one side and then the other."

Tendulkar said splitting into two innings each would reduce the luck factor as the importance of winning the toss would be reduced.

"Today, we can tell the result of close to 75 per cent of matches after the toss," said Tendulkar.

"We know how the conditions will affect the two teams. If it’s a day-night match then both the teams will have to bat under lights.

"The conditions change dramatically but this would ensure that it’s same for everyone."

Cricket commentators have recently been debating the likely demise of 50-over cricket. England’s cricket authorities have now decided to drop 50-over cricket from its domestic competitions, reducing it to a 40-over game.

Gold At All-time High Of Rs 15,900

In Uncategorized on September 5, 2009 at 8:13 am

Gold prices on Friday shot up to an all-time high of nearly Rs 16,000 per 10 gram in the national capital, driven by last minute heavy purchases by traders to build up stocks before the start of the inauspicious ‘Sharad’ tomorrow, amid strong global cues.

The precious metal spurted by Rs 200 from Thursday’s level at scale a new peak of Rs 15,900 per 10 gram.

The rally was also seen in the prices of silver coins which too skyrocketed to a record level of Rs 31, 200 per 100, pushed up by a steep rise of Rs 700 up in silver rates at Rs 25,300 per kg.

The surge in the gold rates was led by heavy demand from jewellers and stockists before Sharad, a inauspicious fortnight for making any fresh purchases, marketmen said.

They added that heavy purchasing orders before big festivals like Diwali and beginning of marriage season soon after th ending of Sharads on September 18 were made in last four trading sessions.

The rally was also sparked by gold’s surge in the overseas markets to a six-month high, towards 1,000 dollar an ounce, they said added.

“We have plenty of orders for jewellery in hand and have to purchase it before the fortnight of Sharads begin,” said Delhi-based jeweller Rakesh Anand.
Further the uncertainty in the stocks, which remained more volatile in last one-week, left little option for the investors but to invest in bullion as a safe haven.
In the last one week the Bombay Stock Exchange index Sensex fell for four consecutive days, but gained 290.79 points on Friday at 15,689.12, the last trading day of the week.

Silver ready surged by Rs 700 to Rs 25,300 per kg and weekly-based delivery by Rs 560 to Rs 25,700 per kg.

Standard gold and ornaments shot up by Rs 200 each to Rs 15,900 and Rs 15,750 per 10 gram respectively. Sovereign also rose to all-time high by gaining Rs 100 to Rs 12,800 per piece of eight gram. (source:
